TOP STORY
🗞️ Wyoming man nominates AI for mayoral race
DALL-E 3
Wyoming resident Victor Miller has registered a custom GPT called “VIC” as a candidate in Cheyenne’s mayoral race. County officials are now deciding whether VIC can appear on the ballot in November.
What you should know:
Miller used his $20 monthly ChatGPT subscription to train VIC on supporting documents, hoping to make it an effective mayoral candidate.
If elected, Miller says he will serve as VIC’s “meat avatar,” meaning he would feed information to VIC and allow it to handle “100% of the voting.”
VIC is already answering questions from concerned residents, and says that an AI-human partnership “would be the most beneficial for Cheyenne.”
The Laromie County Attorney’s Office is investigating whether an AI can run for mayor without being a Cheyenne resident or registered voter.
Why it matters: For all we know, VIC could be running for mayor entirely as a joke. It’s highly unlikely that the City Clerk’s Office of Cheyenne accepts VIC’s application. Regardless, this hilarious mayoral campaign is surprisingly innovative, and could prove to be a case study for the future role of AI in government.

Tesla shareholders are suing Elon Musk and members of the company’s board over Musk’s decision to start xAI.
The details:
Musk previously threatened to develop AI outside of Tesla unless he is awarded more voting control over the company.
He also recently diverted thousands of Tesla-reserved Nvidia chips to X and its subsidiary xAI. This move delayed Tesla’s acquisition of $500 million worth of Nvidia GPUs.
The plaintiffs say that Musk violated Tesla’s code of business and ethics by founding xAI, and are asking the court to give Tesla ownership of his stake in the company.
Musk is simultaneously facing another lawsuit from shareholders for allegedly using insider knowledge to illegally sell Tesla stock.
The bigger picture: Just hours after Musk was sued over xAI, Tesla shareholders voted to restore his $44.9 billion pay package that was denied by a Delaware judge earlier this year. Musk has yet to respond to either lawsuit, and it seems like business will carry on as usual at xAI.
