🗞️ Amazon Web Services debuts new AI certifications

DALL-E 3

Amazon Web Services (AWS) just announced the launch of two new AI-focused certifications for professionals looking to compete for in-demand cloud jobs.

What you should know:

  • Amazon says people with AI skills can boost their salaries by up to 47%

  • AWS Certified AI Practitioner is designed for a wide range of professionals to showcase their understanding of AI and generative AI concepts.

  • AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate targets professionals with at least one year of experience building and deploying AI solutions on AWS.

  • Amazon is offering several free courses to help people prepare for these exams. Beta registration for these certifications will open on August 13.

Why it matters: Amazon reports that even non-tech professionals with AI skills earn significantly higher salaries. In finance, these individuals can make up to 42% more than their peers, while in sales and marketing, they can earn up to 43% more. Now is an excellent time to upskill in AI, and AWS is making it easier than ever.

AI TOOL OF THE DAY

🤖 Particle raises $10.9M in new funding and adds publishing partners

Source: Particle

Particle, an AI-powered news reader startup founded by former Twitter engineers, has raised $10.9 million in new funding. The company has also partnered with Reuters to expand its business model.

The mission:

  • Particle is an app that uses AI algorithms to summarize news articles from various sources into bite-sized overviews.

  • The platform creates a personalized news feed for each user based on their interests, but draws information from diverse sources to present multiple points of view.

  • Particle is now working with Reuters and other publishers to find a business model that can revitalize the news industry.

  • The company’s mobile app, which is still in private beta testing, is designed to combat information overload and help users understand information faster.

Why it matters: News revenue has been declining for years, and some publishers worry that AI will make the problem worse. Particle offers an innovative solution that could benefit both the public and news publishers. We’ll revisit this startup once Particle’s mobile app begins to take shape.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

📸 Apple stock reaches record high after AI announcements

DALL-E 3

Apple stock rose to a record high yesterday after the company announced Apple Intelligence at its Worldwide Developers Conference.

The details:

  • Shares surged 7.3% to $207.15, marking their biggest one-day jump since November 2022.

  • Apple’s market value closed at $3.18 trillion, overtaking Nvidia and falling just short of Microsoft at $3.22 trillion.

  • Several Wall Street analysts predict that the next iPhone upgrade cycle is on the horizon, with new AI features only coming to the iPhone 15 Pro and later devices.

  • This rally marks a major turnaround for Apple, which has struggled early in 2024 amid slowing iPhone demand.

The big picture: While this is obviously great news for Apple and its shareholders, it also highlights generative AI’s growing influence on the stock market. Now is a great time to invest in market leaders in the AI sector.
