Nvidia is tightening its grip on the AI technology market with a series of new chips and software products.

The details:

  • The company revealed the Blackwell GPU, the most powerful AI chip in the world that can run GPT-4 level models up to 30x faster.

  • Nvidia announced NIM, a new software platform that streamlines the process of building custom enterprise AI models.

  • It also introduced Project GR00T, a general-purpose AI model for humanoid robots.

  • Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that AI hallucinations are solvable, and that artificial general intelligence (human-level AI) is five years away.

Why it matters: Nvidia’s new tech is designed to improve every aspect of AI, ranging from language models to humanoid robots. The company is fueling global efforts to achieve AGI, which has the potential to integrate AI into our everyday lives.

AI TOOL OF THE DAY

🤖 Anthropic rolls out Prompt Optimizer

Long and detailed prompts are key to getting high-quality outputs from language models. Prompt engineering can be a headache, so Anthropic developed a smart tool that generates detailed prompt templates from short task descriptions.

How it works:

  • The tool converts simple tasks (ex. “Create a marketing strategy”) into detailed prompt templates that elicit better outputs.

  • The templates can be used with Anthropic’s Claude and other capable language models like GPT-4.

  • The Prompt Optimizer is currently available as a Google Colab notebook

  • To use the tool, briefly describe your desired task in the first code section of TASK under Quickstart (pictured above).

Why it matters: AI tools can be hard to learn. Anthropic’s Prompt Optimizer will enable everyone to get the most out of AI when it transitions to a simpler interface.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

📸 Apple may partner with Google for iPhone AI

DALL-E 3

Apple is reportedly in talks to integrate Google’s Gemini family of AI models into the iPhone.

What you should know:

  • Apple has been developing its own AI models, but reports suggest that they are less advanced than competitors.

  • Gemini could bring AI image and text capabilities to iOS 18 in addition to Apple’s planned upgrades to Siri.

  • The partnership would bring Google’s AI services to over 2 billion active Apple devices.

  • Both companies’ shares jumped after the news.

Why it matters: The global leader in generative AI hopes to get even stronger by making Gemini available to over a billion Apple users globally. For Apple, this move could be a strategic interim solution until its own AI models are on par with competitors. Alternatively, it might mark a long-term expansion of its ongoing partnership with Google.

The bottom line: Apple is committed to bringing generative AI to iOS 18 by any means necessary. iPhone AI will be here by the end of the year.
