Spotlight: Chipotle tests automation
Happy Friday!
It’s been a busy week for medical AI but we’re switching things up today.
Deepfake news segments are stirring controversy on social media and Chipotle is working on a solution for rising labor costs. We also have an interesting AI tool of the day on deck.

Deepfake news segments that appear to be delivered by top journalists and TV networks are going viral on social media.
What you need to know:
Creators are utlizing generative AI to produce seemingly real segments from CBS, CNN, the BBC and other top networks.
Some creators use these deepfakes solely for comedic purposes. Krishna Sahay’s controversial content has helped him amass millions of followers.
This week a real video of CNN correspondent Clarissa Ward ducking for cover near the Israel-Gaza border went viral with deepfake audio replacing her reporting.
Another deepfake shows CNN anchor Anderson Cooper stating that former President Donald Trump was “ripping us a new asshole.”
Why it matters: Many of these AI-generated news segments are getting higher interaction than legitimate clips posted by verified news outlets. While these deepfakes are currently being used mostly for entertainment purposes, they could quickly turn into an aggressive form of misinformation. There is an urgent need for regulations that require all AI-generated content to be labeled as synthetic media.
🤖 Turn messy thoughts into content with TalkNotes
TalkNotes is a voice note-taking app that automatically organizes your ideas into different types of content.
To use TalkNotes simply record a voice note and select the type of content you want to create. I used it to turn this story into a Tweet (with underwhelming results, but outputs are better for LinkedIn and professional content).
50-word review: This is an intriguing tool, but even its discounted price of $59 for a year of unlimited access is high for a tool with limited applications. I recommend checking out TalkNotes if you’re interested in turning interviews and meetings into content. It could also be useful if dictating your thoughts would speed up your writing process for blogs and marketing content.
📸 Chipotle tests automation for burrito bowls and salads
Last week Chipotle partnered with Hyphen to test an automated system that assembles burrito bowls and salads.
The details:
Hyphen is a foodservice platform designed to automate kitchen operations.
The company’s cobotic system would build bowls and salads while Chipotle employees make burritos, tacos and quesadillas.
Digital orders that include a bowl or salad would automatically be routed to Hyphen’s automated system. Ingredients would then be automatically dispensed into each dish in proper portions.
Chipotle says the cobotic digital makeline has the potential to free up more time for employees to service the frontline and increase the capacity for digital orders during peak periods.
Why it matters: We may be looking at the future of fast food here. Restaurants around the U.S. are wrestling with rising labor costs and worker shortages, and autonomous kitchen operations may be the solution. I’ll be keeping an eye out for results from Hyphen’s testing at Chipotle’s test kitchen in California.
