🗞️ The Latest: Google teams up with Department of Defense to build AI-powered microscope

Google and the U.S. Department of Defense have teamed up to build an AI-powered microscope that will help doctors identify cancer.

What you need to know:

  • The Augmented Reality Microscope (ARM) will usually cost $90,000 to $100,000.

  • Dr. Nadeem Zafar, a pathologist at the VA hospital in Seattle, used the AI-powered microscope to flag a patient’s aggressive tumor late last year.

  • The technology is currently not being used to help diagnose patients, but initial research is promising.

  • The DoD’s David Jin says there’s still a “huge” amount of rigorous testing to be done before the ARM can support patient care.

How it works: The ARM is essentially a regular microscope connected to a computer tower that hosts AI models. When a glass slide is prepared and fixed under the microscope, the AI can outline where the cancer is located. The outline appears as a bright green line and the AI also indicates how bad the cancer is.

🤖 AI Training: Create AI QR codes with OpenArt

QR codes have become mainstream since the pandemic, but a big challenge is creating appealing codes that people want to scan. OpenArt leverages AI to create QR code art that will boost interactions.

According to a new study conducted by social scientists working with Boston Consulting Group, workers who used ChatGPT to perform 18 different work tasks significantly outperformed peers who didn’t.

Key insights:

  • The study analyzed hundreds of consultants across 18 different work tasks.

  • Test subjects who used AI finished 12.2% more tasks.

  • They completed tasks 25.1% faster.

  • AI users also produced 40% higher quality results than other participants.

  • Consultants with the lowest initial scores saw the biggest jump in performance when allowed to use AI.

The bottom line: This is yet another study that finds significant productivity gains for workers who embrace AI. Artificial intelligence won’t replace your job if you learn how to use it.
