TOP STORY

🗞️ Google launches highly anticipated Gemini model

Source: Google

Google just launched Gemini, its most advanced multimodal AI yet that will compete with GPT-4.

What you should know:

  • Gemini can work with text, images and video — unlike LLMs trained exclusively on text.

  • Google says there are three versions of Gemini: Ultra, the largest and most capable, the medium-sized Pro and the significantly smaller Nano.

  • An initial version of Gemini Pro started rolling out to Google’s Bard chatbot yesterday.

  • Gemini Ultra is the first AI model to outperform human experts on the MMLU benchmark, which includes questions on topics including math, U.S. history and law.

Why it matters: Gemini Pro is now the most capable free chatbot on the market according to benchmark testing. What’s even more exciting (or scary) is that Gemini Ultra will be available in 2024. Google is the first company to build an AI model that can outperform humans, which will only intensify debates about AI developing with potentially dangerous speed.

AI TOOL OF THE DAY

🤖 Upscale images with Magnific

Do you have a picture you love but wish the quality was better? Magnific is an AI solution that can upscale images while giving you unparalleled control over its output.

Magnific leverages advanced AI tech to achieve impressively high-resolution upscaling (example above). Its capable of upscaling everything from portraits and landscapes to illustrations and graphic designs, making it the most versatile AI upscaling tool on the market.

While AI hallucinations are typically a hinderance, Magnific encourages users to let its tool hallucinate by adjusting creativity sliders. This enables Magnific to reimagine photos with new details that are guided by your own prompts and parameters.

Although this is an incredibly impressive tool, it’s certainly not a cheap one. Plans start at $39 a month. Click here to try Magnific.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

📸 Meta launches AI image generator

Generated by Imagine with Meta

Meta is rolling out a standalone AI image generator called Imagine with Meta.

The details:

  • Similar to other popular image generators, Imagine with Meta creates high-resolution images from text prompts using natural language.

  • The model is powered by Meta’s existing Emu image generation model, and is currently free to use.

  • Meta previously integrated its text-to-image generation feature into its chat messaging experience.

  • The company has added watermarks (which are quickly becoming an industry standard) to content generated by Imagine with Meta.

The relevance: Imagine with Meta doesn’t appear to achieve anything that existing text-to-image models haven’t already, but it’s still an impressive free alternative to leading image generators. Meta has a tendency to integrate new AI features into its social media platforms, so it’s possible that Imagine with Meta becomes the first AI image generation experience on Instagram and Facebook.
