🗞️ The Latest in AI: Meta confirms AI ‘off-switch’ in Europe

Meta has confirmed that it will launch non-personalized content feeds on Facebook and Instagram. The move comes ahead of the August 25 deadline for compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA).

Key points:

  • The DSA requires larger platforms and search engines to provide users in the region with the ability to turn off AI-driven personalization.

  • Users must be offered a choice of a non-algorithmic feed, where content sorting is not based on tracking.

  • Content can instead be ordered and displayed chronologically or ranked by local popularity.

  • Meta has until Friday to launch the off-switch.

  • TikTok made a similar announcement earlier this month.

The bottom line: Europe has led the charge on AI regulation, so this news doesn’t come as a surprise. Governments around the world may follow suit to protect consumers from AI-driven data tracking.

🤖 AI Tool of the Day: Microsoft Designer is now widely available in Edge

I shared this tool in June, but like to circle back to AI tools that are making headlines again.

Microsoft’s free AI-powered design tool is now available to Edge users in the US. This allows users to access Microsoft Designer from Edge’s sidebar without opening a separate tab or program.

Microsoft Designer can create high-quality graphics from text prompts, and you don’t need any design experience to use it. Here’s how it works from Edge’s sidebar:

A new IBM report predicts 40% of the global workforce will need to “reskill” in the next three years due to AI (that’s a whopping 1.4 billion people).

Key points:

  • IBM surveyed 3,000 execs and 21,000 workers on AI’s impact in the workplace.

  • 87% of execs expect generative AI to augment roles rather than replace them.

  • Tech adopters reported an average revenue growth rate of 15%. Those who focus on AI “see a 36% higher revenue growth rate than their peers.”

  • There is now a bigger emphasis on people skills as AI enables workers to learn technical skills with less training.

  • “AI won’t replace people — but people who use AI will replace people who don’t.”

The bottom line: Now is the time to get a leg up with AI. Read The Daily Update, test AI tools and integrate the best ones into your workflows.
