Meta just debuted a slew of new AI experiences at its annual Meta Connect conference. CEO Mark Zuckerberg hopes the new tools will eventually help jumpstart the metaverse.

Meta AI:

  • Meta AI is a new conversational assistant available on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.

  • The advanced assistant is powered by a custom model that leverages technology from Llama 2 and the company’s latest LLM research.

  • Meta AI has access to real-time information through a search partnership with Bing.

  • Image generation will be available via the “/imagine” prompt. Axios reports that the model can generate photorealistic images that users can share with friends.

Other announcements:

  • In partnership with EssilorLuxottica, Meta announced its next-gen Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses collection. Users can say “Hey Meta” to access Meta AI, and will also be able to livestream from the glasses to Facebook or Instagram.

  • Meta Quest 3 features breakthrough mixed reality that enables a spectrum of immersive experiences, such as playing a virtual piano on a coffee table.

  • New AI stickers will enable English-language users to generate customized stickers for their chats and stories.

  • Meta is also rolling out two new Instagram features: restyle and backdrop. Restyle lets users reimagine images by applying visual styles such as “watercolor,” while backdrop changes the scene or background of an image using text prompts.

The bottom line: Zuckerberg is all-in on the metaverse. Meta’s grand plan is for people to interact with AI assistants in a digital universe, and it might not be long before that vision becomes a reality.

If you love building but not marketing, Flightplan is the AI solution for you. Provide Flightplan with information about your project/company and it will automatically create a tailored marketing strategy. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Provide information about your project (name, website, industry, product, etc.).

Step 2: Describe your market (target audience, current market position, etc.).

Step 3: Describe your competitors (names, websites, what they do well, etc.).

Step 4: Explain your distribution (pricing strategy, short/long term goals, etc.).

The entire process takes just ten minutes. Single projects can be purchased for $29. Click here to try Flightplan.

Meta’s AI “personas” are finally here. The company is launching 28 chatbots with unique interests and personalities.

Key points:

  • The chatbots will be available on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.

  • Each bot is designed to have more personality, opinions and interests. Meta hopes this will make AI chatbots more fun to interact with.

  • As users chat with these characters, their profile image subtly animates based on the conversation.

  • Meta hopes that the new chatbots will attract Gen Z users to its platforms. The company partnered with cultural icons and influencers to play some of the roles.

Notable characters (source):

  • Kendall Jenner as Billie, a ride-or-die companion.

  • Chris Paul as Perry, a pro golfer helping you perfect your stroke.

  • Dwyane Wade as Victor, an Ironman triathlete motivating you to be your best self.

  • MrBeast as Zach, a big brother who will roast you — because he cares.

  • Snoop Dogg as Dungeon Master (not sure what this one means).

  • Tom Brady as Bru, a wisecracking sports debater who pulls no punches.

  • Charli D’Amelio as Coco, a dance enthusiast.

Why it matters: Meta is late to the chatbot race, but the public has yet to encounter AI that embodies human personalities. Given Meta’s immense scale through its social networks, these chatbots may be the first experience that most people have with AI.
