🗞️ Meta releases Llama 3
DALL-E 3
Meta just released its largest open-source large language model to date. Llama 3.1 405B is a free 405 billion parameter model that rivals industry-leading paid models.
What you should know:
Llama 3 supports eight different languages, and boasts advanced capabilities in general knowledge, math and coding.
The model is generally on par with top commercial models according to benchmark testing.
Llama 3’s 128k context window allows it to process roughly 100,000 words or 300 pages in a single interaction.
Meta says Llama 3, like its other open-source models, is available for developers to fully customize for their needs and applications.
Why it matters: Llama 3’s benchmarks are impressive given its size. For comparison, OpenAI’s GPT-4 is reported to have 1 trillion parameters. This makes Llama 3 a cost-effective option for developers looking to build AI models with real-world applications.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
📸 Tesla will start selling humanoid robots in 2026
Source: Tesla
Tesla CEO Elon Musk says the company will begin producing and using its Optimus humanoid robots next year. It will start making them to sell in 2026.
The details:
Tesla reports that Optimus is already performing tasks autonomously at one of its facilities.
Musk says his company will have “genuinely useful humanoid robots in low production for Tesla internal use next year.”
The billionaire is eyeing “high production for other companies” by 2026.
Musk boldly estimates that the long-term demand for general purpose humanoid robots will exceed 20 billion units.
Reality check: Despite impressive demo videos, there’s a lot of progress that needs to be made to reach truly useful general-purpose robots. This includes integrating advanced language models into autonomous robots, allowing them to reason and learn like humans at a basic level. All of this goes to say that, like other Musk products, Optimus is fairly likely to experience a delay.
