Anthropic and Menlo Ventures are launching a $100 million fund to back early-stage AI startups.
The details:
The Anthology Fund is structured like Apple’s iFund venture that attracted developers to the company’s mobile platforms in 2008.
Anthropic’s goal is to power the next generation of AI startups with its technology. The company wants to create a feedback loop with developers to improve its products.
The Amazon-backed startup is also offering coaching, quarterly meetups and a direct hotline to the company.
Anthropic co-founder Daniela Amodei says this initiative will lower the financial barrier to entry for new startups.
The bigger picture: Anthropic is taking a direct shot at OpenAI’s $175 million Startup Fund with the Anthology Fund. Attracting new startups to Anthropic’s infrastructure could help the company compete in a market currently dominated by OpenAI.
