🗞️ OpenAI seeks Hollywood partnerships
DALL-E 3
OpenAI is reportedly seeking partnerships with Hollywood to deploy its new AI video generator (Sora) in the entertainment industry.
What you should know:
Bloomberg reports that OpenAI is meeting with film studios, media executives and talent agencies in Los Angeles.
The company plans to roll out AI advances in phases to “ensure safe implementation.”
OpenAI has already made Sora available to a select group of actors and directors.
Toronto-based multimedia production company shy kids used Sora to generate a short film about a balloon man.
Why it matters: Creative directors and filmmakers have found that Sora excels when it's used to generate original ideas rather than imitating existing films. Given its capabilities, it may not be long before this AI video tool plays a significant role in producing full-length studio movies.

AI TOOL OF THE DAY
🤖 GitHub launches AI tool for debugging code
Source: GitHub
GitHub just launched the first beta of a new code-scanning feature that automatically fixes security vulnerabilities in the coding process.
How it works:
The new feature combines the capabilities of GitHub Copilot with CodeQL.
GitHub says the resulting system can resolve over two-thirds of the vulnerabilities it finds on its own.
Code-scanning autofix covers more than 90% of alert types in JavaScript, Typescript, Java and Python.
The new tool uses OpenAI’s GPT-4 to generate fixes and their explanations.
Why it matters: Although GitHub concedes that this tool isn’t perfect, the vast majority of autofix suggestions will be correct. This will be a major time-saver for developers and security teams that will see a reduced number of everyday vulnerabilities in their code.
BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
📸 Major tech companies challenge Nvidia’s AI dominance
DALL-E 3
A new group called The Unified Acceleration Foundation (UXL) is developing an open-source software suite as an alternative to Nvidia’s proprietary tech.
The details:
UXL was formed by Google, Intel, Arm, Qualcomm and Samsung.
The group’s goal is to enable developers to run their code on any machine with any chip.
UXL is seeking aid from Microsoft and Amazon to support the project.
A “mature” version of the project is expected by the end of the year.
Why it matters: UXL is addressing a major challenge in current AI technology. Developers frequently have to customize their applications to match specific hardware requirements, forcing those utilizing Nvidia chips to also use Nvidia's CUDA computing platform. By offering versatile alternatives, this project aims to reduce both development time and costs.
