OpenAI has started building its next-generation AI model GPT-5, and CEO Sam Altman claims it could possess superintelligence.

What you need to know:

  • The next generation of AI models is expected to surpass humans in terms of knowledge and match humanity’s ability to reason and process complex ideas.

  • OpenAI is seeking additional funding from long-time partner Microsoft to make this a reality.

  • Altman says training the model will require more processing power and data than ever before. OpenAI will procure data from the public domain and buy it from companies.

  • The company’s ultimate goal is to create artificial general intelligence (AGI) — a hypothetical AI agent that can perform any intellectual task that humans can.

Why it matters: The prospect of superintelligent AI is both concerning and exciting. AGI will hypothetically be able to express new and original ideas, making it an extremely valuable tool and a serious threat to humanity.

The bottom line: Training GPT-5 could take months if not years, so it won’t be here anytime soon.

AI TOOL OF THE DAY

🤖 ParsePolicy — AI that reads privacy policies for you

Nobody actually reads privacy policies. Now there’s an AI that can do it for you.

ParsePolicy simplifies policies so that you always know what you’re signing. All you need to do is input a privacy policy’s URL and your email and you’ll have a fully simplified summary in less than five minutes.

The example above is an excerpt of Twitter’s (now X) summarized privacy policy. Definitely give this tool a try if you’re looking for ways to protect your data online.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

📸 YouTube cracks down on AI-generated content

YouTube is implementing new guidelines that will protect users from AI-generated content by labeling synthetic videos.

The details:

  • The video streaming platform will require creators to disclose when they use AI to make realistic-looking synthetic videos.

  • Updated privacy tools will also allow people to request the removal of videos that use AI to simulate an identifiable person.

  • YouTube will also give music labels a way to strike down content that mimics an artist’s unique voice.

  • The new policy will go into effect in the coming months. Violators risk having their accounts removed or suspended from earning ad revenue.

The relevance: The rise of generative AI has led to the widespread dissemination of deepfake images and videos used to mislead people. This type of content often depicts events that never happened or makes a real person appear to say something they didn’t. It’s good to see YouTube push for transparency as AI-driven misinformation thrives online.
