🗞️ The Latest in AI: Hollywood studios double down on AI amidst strike
Netflix satirized the use of AI in TV in the Season 6 episode of “Black Mirror” titled Joan is Awful. A few weeks later, the company is increasing investments in AI. (Source: IMDb)
One of the biggest issues writers and actors on strike have with AMPTP’s new contract offer is a lack of protection against AI. Despite this, studios are doubling down on their investments in AI.
Netflix has posted a new Product Manager role for its AI Machine Learning Program. The role pays $900k a year. The position will focus on “increasing the leverage of [Netflix’s] Machine Learning Platform,” as the company makes a larger effort to optimize film and TV production.
Netflix’s expansion into AI content creation comes just weeks after the company satirized the use of AI in a Season 6 episode of “Black Mirror.”
Other studios are also increasing investments in AI. Disney is hiring for a senior AI engineer to “drive innovation across our cinematic pipelines and theatrical experiences.
These moves seem to suggest that the ongoing labor strike is far from over.

🤖 AI Tool of the Day: Rewind — Personalized AI in your pocket
Rewind just launched its personalized AI for iPhone. It captures everything you’ve seen on your Mac and iPhone and makes it searchable with AI. Rewind has already broken into the top 100 productivity apps in the App Store.
Rewind captures everything you do in Safari. If you opened an important email but forgot what it said, ask Rewind to summarize the emails you opened today. Can’t remember the key takeaways from a news article you read earlier? Ask Rewind to remind you.
Everything Rewind captures is stored locally on your device, meaning no one (not even Rewind) will be able to access your private information. The app doesn’t require cloud integration and you can choose apps that you don’t want Rewind to record.

📸 Business Spotlight: LinkedIn may launch an AI ‘coach’ for professionals

LinkedIn appears to be developing a new AI tool that helps users look for and apply to jobs. A new leak shows that the Microsoft-owned company is testing a “LinkedIn Coach” chatbot.
The news was leaked by app researcher Nima Owji. LinkedIn spokesperson Amanda Purvis said the company is “always exploring” new ways to improve the user experience on the platform, and that the company “will have more to share soon.”
The app will reportedly help users apply for jobs, learn new skills and connect with their network. The screenshot from Owji also shows that users will be able to ask LinkedIn Coach what a company does and how the culture at a company is.
Microsoft has been testing AI features across several of its products like Bing and Office, so this news from LinkedIn doesn’t come as a surprise. If released, the LinkedIn Coach has the potential to seriously enhance job searching on LinkedIn.
