🗞️ The Latest in AI: Meta might launch AI ‘personas’ next month

Meta could launch AI “personas” in services like Facebook and Instagram by next month. The chatbots would give users new ways to search, get recommendations and engage with Meta’s products.
Chatbots could be a way to boost engagement with services like Facebook and Instagram in the face of competition from TikTok. The personas could also be a way for Meta to display its AI capabilities as it competes with Microsoft, OpenAI and Google.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been open about his plans to integrate AI personas into the company’s products.
“We’re exploring experiences with text (like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger), with images (like creative Instagram filters and ad formats), and with video and multi-modal experiences,” Zuckerberg said.
The company is using its own Llama large language model to build new AI initiatives. App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi leaked an AI persona feature for Instagram in June.

📸 Business Spotlight: YouTube is testing AI auto-generated video summaries

YouTube is currently testing AI to auto-generate video summaries. The AI auto-generated summaries provide a quick overview of a video, letting users decide if it’s the right one for them.
The video platform noted that while these summaries are helpful, they do not replace video descriptions written by creators. They have already started to appear on the watch and search pages for a limited number of English-language videos and viewers.
There are already YouTube video summarizer tools available to the public, but some YouTube creators have criticized them for failing to summarize longer videos. YouTube’s auto-generated summaries would also be conveniently native to the platform.
YouTube is rapidly growing its array of AI initiatives. The platform previously announced AI-generated quizzes for educational videos and an AI-powered dubbing tool. None of these features have become permanent additions to the video platform yet.
