🗞️ The Latest in AI: Google warns own staff about chatbots
Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., is warning employees about the use of chatbots including its own Bard. The company has advised employees not to enter its confidential material into AI chatbots.
Researchers have found that AI chatbots create a leak risk by being able to reproduce data that they absorb during training. Alphabet also stated that Bard can make undesired computer code suggestions, and warned its engineers to avoid direct use of code generated by chatbots.
Google hopes to avoid business harm from its new AI chatbot software. The company’s concerns reflect an emerging security standard for corporations to caution personnel about publicly-available chatbots.
Several businesses around the world have already established guardrails on AI chatbots, including Samsung, Amazon and Deutsche Bank. Apple reportedly has as well.
A Google privacy notice updated on June 1 says: “Don’t include confidential or sensitive information in your Bard conversations.”

📸 Business Spotlight: How AI could revolutionize the construction industry
In a sector that faces rising costs of raw materials, labor and machinery, artificial intelligence has tons of untapped potential in managing productivity, efficiency and safety. The construction industry is notoriously slow to implement new technologies, but utilizing AI could be exactly what the sector needs.
Worker safety is one of the biggest concerns in the construction business. AI has the potential to improve the industry’s safety standards. AI-enabled technologies can reduce the risk of on-site accidents and injuries by monitoring the work environment and alerting workers to potential dangers and hazards. By also automating certain manual tasks such as inspection and maintenance, AI enables workers to focus on higher-value tasks while decreasing the potential for injury.
Finishing a project on schedule and under budget requires careful coordination that produces lots of data. Fortunately, AI can step in to handle project data and coordination such as scheduling, budgeting, resource management and project reporting. Utilizing AI in this way lowers costs and boosts efficiency. Platforms like Clockwise and Motion are already helping project managers optimize their team’s day-to-day work.
AI ultimately has the potential to streamline the entire construction process. Still, in one of many sectors struggling globally, its potential remains largely untapped.
