🗞️ The Latest in AI: Snapchat AI goes rogue

Snapchat’s personalized chatbot disturbed users on Tuesday with a creepy glitch. The “My AI” chatbot posted a bizarre video of a wall and ceiling to its public story and then stopped responding to users’ messages.
What happened:
The ChatGPT-powered bot posted a strange video to its story that scared users.
My AI went offline after posting, leaving some users panicked that it posted images of their own homes.
Snap confirmed that the incident was just a glitch.
My thoughts: This is a bad look for AI. The incident is primed for clickbait and speculation about AI developing self-awareness. It seems like Snapchat’s chatbot was not worth the investment.

📸 Industry Spotlight: Brain recordings reconstruct a Pink Floyd song
Source: Midjourney
UC Berkeley neuroscientists just used iEEG brain recordings and AI to recreate Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” from brain activity. This is a huge breakthrough in neuro research.
Listen to the output here.
Key points:
Researchers recorded the activity of electrodes placed on the brains of epilepsy patients listening to the song.
AI software reconstructed the song’s rhythms, vocals and lyrics from the brain waves.
The reconstructed song is muffled but decipherable.
The findings help capture the electrical activity of brain regions processing musical elements.
The bottom line: This is a huge leap towards helping patients with ALS and other neurological disorders better communicate. The breakthrough could lead to improved brain implants that can capture the rhythm and intonation of speech.
