🗞️ The Latest in AI: OpenAI launches GPTBot to improve AI models

Source: OpenAI

OpenAI just launched GPTBot, a 24/7 web crawler that automatically scrapes data from the internet. The company behind ChatGPT hopes that this will improve future AI models.

What you need to know:

  • GPTBot filters out paywall-restricted and policy-violating sources. OpenAI claims it also avoids scraping personal information like names, addresses and phone numbers.

  • Website owners can disallow or customize GPTBot’s access to their site by modifying their robots.txt file.

  • OpenAI’s announcement has raised legal and ethical concerns regarding the use of scraped web data for training AI systems. Critics are especially concerned that copyrighted materials could be used without receiving proper credit.

Why it matters: GPTBot could help ChatGPT catch up with competitors by moving past its current knowledge cut-off of September 2021. The data it collects can help ChatGPT improve its accuracy, capabilities and safety.

The bottom line: OpenAI’s highly-anticipated GPT-5 model is poised to be one of the most powerful generative AI models in the world.

📸 Business Spotlight: Cruise is testing self-driving vehicles in Atlanta

Source: Cruise

Cruise has begun testing its self-driving cars in Atlanta as the company continues its plan to launch robotaxi services in multiple cities. Initial testing began on Monday and Cruise said on X that there is “more to come soon.”

What you need to know:

  • Operations in Atlanta are currently part of a larger testing strategy.

  • Over the coming weeks, Cruise will begin initial data collection and testing in multiple cities across the country.

  • The company now operates in San Francisco, Austin, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Miami, Nashville, Los Angeles and Atlanta.

  • A commercial ride-hailing service will be introduced in Nashville soon.

Why it matters: Self-driving cars are no longer a fantasy. These test vehicles will eventually lose their human safety operators, and will become driverless commercial vehicles. If Cruise’s testing is successful, it might not be long before ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft deploy autonomous vehicles.
