🗞️ The Latest in AI: Healthcare AI led by battle between Google and Microsoft
Google’s Med-PaLM 2 is poised to battle Microsoft-backed ChatGPT in the lucrative medical AI industry.
Med-PaLM 2 is an AI tool designed to answer questions about medical information. It has been in testing at the Mayo Clinic research hospital since April according to the Wall Street Journal.
Microsoft has poured billions into OpenAI’s ChatGPT, a versatile generative AI tool released in November last year. OpenAI was co-founded by Elon Musk and Sam Altman in 2015.
Google is betting that Med-PaLM 2 will be better equipped to handle medical conversations because it has been trained on questions and answers from medical licensing exams. ChatGPT, in contrast, uses more general-purpose algorithms that enable it to write and code.
Microsoft is not backing down from the challenge. In April the company teamed up with Epic, a health software company, to build a tool that can automatically draft messages to patients using the algorithms behind ChatGPT.

📸 Business Spotlight: YouTube tests AI-generated quizzes on educational videos
YouTube is experimenting with AI-generated quizzes on its mobile app for iOS and Android devices. The quizzes are designed to help viewers learn more about a subject in an educational video.
The feature will help YouTube measure how well a video covers a certain topic. The AI-generated quizzes are being rolled out globally to a small percentage of users that watch “a few” educational videos according to YouTube.
The quiz feature is only available for a select portion of English-language content. Quizzes will appear on the home feed as links under recently watched videos.
Many YouTube experiments ultimately don’t make it to the platform, but this one could have significant upside. An increasing number of teachers are using YouTube to create educational content or share videos with their students. The quiz feature could be an effective way for students to gain a deeper understanding of material.
